Air quality

Air quality

Curious about air pollution levels around your school and area? A set of air quality sensors have been installed by Ealing Council across the borough, providing near real-time data on levels of nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter.

Access the realtime data at Clean Air Ealing - Home.

Pollution level forecasts are also available – a service potentially useful to sufferers of breathing issues such as asthma.

Air quality workshops

The school travel team offer free workshops to schools informing pupils about the causes of air pollution and ways to reduce it, in particular through active travel. Motorised transport has been identified as the biggest source of emissions, and the switch to walking and wheeling is having a significant impact.

The workshops, for both KS1 and KS2, inform and hopefully promote behaviour change through investigation and discussion. For more information contact the school travel team.

Take steps to improve air quality

We have commissioned a walking to school video (MP4) to inspire pupils, parents and carers to use foot power to reduce on pollution levels. The video can be shown in classes and assemblies, or even on your visitor reception display screen, if you have one.

Route to cleaner air

Ealing offers a wealth of route options to make walking and wheeling a pleasure. Those wanting a quiet alternative to the urban jungle are never far from verdant, spacious parks or picturesque canal towpaths. Use the TfL Journey Planner to plot your route. Or for walkers, there’s the app Go Jauntly.
