Climate change
Climate action
The school travel team are here to support your school with your sustainability and climate change strategy. Encouraging participation in active travel (walking and wheeling) will be a key element.
Here we have also assembled links and resources you will find useful.
COP
World leaders attend the annual conference of the parties (COP) event, usually in November, to thrash out the global response to climate change.
To make the issue a significant discussion point in your school community, we have created a collection of resources, suitable for both KS1 and KS2. These include an assembly PowerPoint that can be delivered by staff or, with a few adjustments, your explorer ambassadors, and plans for three lessons, that include creating leaves for an active travetree. There’s also a guide for teachers, and an information sheet for parents and cares.

Air quality
Curious about air pollution levels around your school and area? A set of Air Quality Sensors have been installed by Ealing Council across the borough, providing near real-time data on levels of Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter. The data can be accessed on dedicated webpages Clean Air Ealing - Home. Pollution level forecasts are also available – a service potentially useful to sufferers of breathing issues such as asthma.
Air quality workshops
The school travel team have devised a set of lessons to inform pupils about the causes of air pollution and ways to reduce it, in particular through active travel. Motorised transport has been identified as the biggest source of emissions, and the switch to walking and wheeling is having a significant impact. The sessions, for both KS1 and KS2, inform and hopefully promote behaviour change through investigation and discussion. For more information contact sta@ealing.gov.uk
Route to cleaner air
Ealing offers a wealth of route options to make walking and wheeling a pleasure. Those wanting a quiet alternative to the urban jungle are never far from verdant, spacious parks or picturesque canal towpaths. Use the TfL Journey Planner to plot your route. Or for walkers, there’s the app Go Jauntly.
Climate action in Ealing
Having declared a climate emergency in 2019, Ealing Council has drafted an action plan. You can find out more here: Climate action | Ealing Council
