Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) scheme of work

In November 2023, the Ealing health improvement team launched the new and improved Ealing scheme of work. The scheme of work was reviewed and rewritten by the health improvement team and Ealing primary schools.

Here is an overview of the Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) scheme of the work (EGfL login needed). The scheme remains a comprehensive resource for teaching PSHE across the whole school. It includes all statutory elements of the relationships, sex and health education guidance whilst also helping schools meet their responsibilities to safeguard, teach fundamental British Values and meet equality and inclusion goals. Schools delivering the scheme of work can be assured this will form a significant element of their school's personal development goals under the Ofsted framework.

The scheme covers the three core overarching themes of relationships, health and wellbeing and living in the wider world. The scheme of work is fully planned and resourced for Nursery to Year 6 and offers five ‘ready to teach’ lessons per half term.

Specialist colleagues from schools and the local authority have been active in the redesign of the scheme, so schools can be confident they have up-to-date resources on topics such as harmful sexual behaviour, online safety, mental health, the environment and race equality.

The Ealing primary PSHE SOW is available via Google Drive, so continued updates and resources can be shared with schools. Here is an overview of PSHE.

Schools have the option to begin teaching from the new resources from Spring 2024 onwards. Training that can be delivered in schools is available as part of the resources.
