Background: New play zones in the borough

Plans to create a number of new sports and activity spaces are underway to encourage children and adults to be active together.

Working with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and The Football Foundation, a charity helping communities improve their local football facilities, the council is asking residents to share where in the borough they want sports spaces, how they want to use them and what sports they like to play.

If you are a club representative and wish to make comments and suggestions on behalf of your club, please email me and I will forward the emails to the Playzones steering group. Please can you share with any colleagues or associates who live and deliver across Ealing to complete this survey and please could all adults fill it out as an adult participant and could parents please complete it with your children

What are PlayZones?

PlayZones are safe and accessible outdoor facilities that bring people together through football and other sports such as netball, cricket, basketball and rugby. These 30m x 20m activity spaces will be available for use day and night, all year round. The PlayZones programme aims to create over 240 PlayZones in England by 2025.

New play zones

Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “It’s great that we’re expanding community sports facilities across the borough. Working with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and the Football Foundation we want to deliver even more sports and activity spaces where you want to see them.

“It was clear during the pandemic how valued local facilities are in the community and we are committed to developing sports facilities that bring people together. Please get involved by telling us what sports you want to play and where in a quick survey.”

Accessible sports facilities for all

Providing opportunities and access to safe, inclusive and welcoming facilities are at the heart of the programme. The council wants to hear from those who might not have traditionally had a chance to get involved in sport. Ealing Council would be particularly interested in hearing from people from lower incomes, women and girls, people with disabilities or long-term conditions and ethnically diverse communities.
