What are volunteer police cadets?

We are a volunteer uniform youth group that is supported and run by Metropolitan Police Service. Established since 1987 and have grown to over 5000 cadets, with at least one Senior and one Junior unit in every borough.

Junior police cadets (10-13yrs)

Junior police cadets are aged 10-13yrs and our new Panda unit aged from school Year 3 to Year 5. It aims to teach young people life skills and social responsibility in a fun and engaging environment. These units are led by senior cadets supported by VPC staff, allowing them to be positive role models to their youngest peers.

Senior police cadets (13 - 18 yrs)

The cadets meet once a week and often perform duties in support of local policing. They also take part in large public events Like Trooping the Colour, Remembrance Day Parades, London Marathon and Notting Hill Carnival. There are also various cadet competitions held throughout the year were units compete against each other. Cadets work through a national curriculum which is accredited by ASDAN and all these activities can be used to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
