Schools play area inspection training

14 Sep 2023

Action for headteachers

Any staff responsible for play equipment inspections should attend the schools play area inpection training course.

In particuliar, where Ealing Council is the employer for community, special, maintained nurseries and pupil referral units. Other schools in the borough, where Ealing Council is not the employer are also strongly encouraged to send their relevant staff on this valuable training.

Schools should also consider having more than one person trained to cover for any staff absences.

The training is designed for all school staff who are responsible for inspections of school play areas/equipment:

  • daily, weekly routine
  • monthly, quarterly operational

These are in addition to the annual inspections carried out by an external company.

Training aims

Focusing on equipment typically found within school playgrounds, rather than the sort of equipment found more generally in publicly accessible playgrounds. If schools have installed gym equipment or similar in play areas, then the supplier/manufacturer of these will need to be contacted for training on how to inspect these.

Delegates will achieve the RoSPA training certificate after the session. Certificates are valid for 3 years.

If your school has not had anyone trained on how to carry out the routine and operational inspections of playground equipment, then they can book on Ealing CPD Online:
