Just one aspect - early years SEND

This support package is for early years and senior staff with SEND responsibilities in mainstream primary schools.

To meet the differing needs across schools in the borough, we offer three options, allowing schools to participate in a way that best suits them. The three options for ‘Just One Aspect’ are:

1. Intensive programme – approx. 10 school places (over 2-3 terms)
A programme of support for a group of schools designed to upskill staff with some essential early SEND support strategies, techniques and interventions. The programme enables practitioners to be ready to effectively support their SEND child(ren) with next steps as they progress over the year. Different aspects are covered,facilitating the development of several aspects in sequence over the course of the programme. Including:

• Introductory materials and programme outline
• Regular training sessions
• Series of short-term action plans
• Gap tasks
• Check-ins/meeting opportunities
• Review

2. A provision and practice development cycle (over one term)
Supported development cycle for individual schools to make a positive change with one target area at a time within a specified time frame. Enabling the school to make a specific change, implement and embed it to further develop their SEND provision and inclusive practice e.g., training and implementation of ‘intensive interaction’ across a year group or the early years. Including:

• Initial meeting to select one area for development from choices available and prepare
• Training session on this aspect of provision or practice
• Action Plan for implementation by school
• Review

3. Training sessions (over session only)

Training sessions available for a selection of pre-determined topics on scheduled dates throughout the year either at the Ealing Education Centre (EEC) or online. Schools may select which one(s) to attend and book places via Ealing CPD online.

Examples of topics covered: Intensive interaction, attention autism, visuals for the environment and for learning, total communication approach, effective adult interactions for communication, successfully supporting play.
